Golf in Oman

Five golf courses. Five completely different rounds.

Oman's golf scene is small but genuinely varied — a championship links course by the sea, one of the Gulf's oldest desert clubs, and a course you can play after dark under floodlights. Here's what each one is actually like, so you can pick the right one for your trip.
  • 5 courses within reach of Muscat

  • October – April is the best playing season

  • 1 hosts an international European Tour event

  • 1 fully floodlit for golf after dark

Al Mouj Golf

Oman's only true links-style course, laid out right along the coast and designed by Greg Norman. It's also the course that put Omani golf on the international map — home to the country's European Tour event, the Oman Open.

  • 18 holes
  • Par 72
  • Designed by Greg Norman
  • Floodlit 9-hole academy course

Ghala Golf Club

Opened in 1971 as a modest 9-hole sand course, Ghala is Oman's oldest golf club and still one of its best-loved. It sits inside a dramatic wadi valley, with narrow fairways cut through rock and desert slopes that reward accuracy over power.

  • 18 holes
  • Par 72

  • Set in a natural wadi valley

La Vie Club

Opened in 2009 as Muscat Hills — the first fully grassed 18-hole course built in Oman — the club reopened in 2023 as La Vie Club under new management. Same Paul Thomas layout, carved through wadi escarpments with views out to both the sea and the Hajar Mountains.

Ras Al Hamra Golf Club

Opened in 1969, Ras Al Hamra is Oman's only fully floodlit course. Clever double greens and multiple tee positions let a nine-hole layout play as a genuine eighteen — by day, or well after the sun's gone down.

  • 9 holes, played as 18
  • Par 71
  • Floodlit for night golf

Oman's only seaside course · Coastal resort

Jebel Sifah Golf Course

About 45 minutes south of Muscat, Jebel Sifah is Harradine Golf's only true seaside course — holes run between the Gulf of Oman on one side and the Hajar Mountains on the other, inside a small marina resort worth staying at in its own right.

  • 9 holes, played as 18
  • Par 36 (72 as 18)
  • Designed by Harradine Golf
  • ~45 minutes from Muscat

Questions people usually ask about golf in Oman.

Do I need to bring my own clubs?

No — every course on this list rents a full set, though serious golfers often prefer their own. Worth asking us about rental quality ahead if you're particular about equipment.

Is there a dress code?

Yes, fairly standard golf etiquette across all five — collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers, soft spikes. Jeans and trainers are usually turned away at the clubhouse.

Can non-golfers in my group do something else nearby?

Easily — most of these courses sit close to Muscat's beaches, souqs and forts, so it's simple to split the day between golf and everything else.

What's the best time of year to play?

October through April, when mornings are cool enough for a full round before the afternoon heat sets in. Ras Al Hamra's floodlights make summer evenings workable too.
