Snake Canyon Canyoning

A 4x4 takes you through Wadi Bani Awf to the start of the canyon, where your certified guide gives a safety briefing and fits helmets, life jackets and abseiling harnesses.

You enter the gorge with a jump of about five or six metres into the first deep pool; from here the only way is onwards. The canyon twists between walls sometimes just a couple of metres apart. Swim long stretches of clear water, scramble over rocks and use the natural slides worn by the water.

Guides lead you down the abseils, including drops of about 8 and 30 metres. Near the end, swim through a dark cave section, a highlight for many, before climbing out at the village of Al Zamah. A traditional Omani lunch of rice and meat, cooked by villagers, can be arranged before the drive back.
